Such good stuff...

I just dig old utility equipment. Manhole covers, phone boxes, ancient telephone poles-junk like that. It's the combination of old world craftsmanship (banged out in the USA) and plain-out weathered beauty from the elements. The door picture was taken at the old school building/rec center at Sunset Knoll in Lombard. It's not super ancient-late 50's early 60's, but it looks really cool. I think it's a maintenance door/vent for a heating/cooling system.
This is an electrical box out in front of someones house on Maple in Lombard. I noticed it when I was out walking Spinner a few weeks ago. I imagine it has something to do with the street lights but since I'm no expert on this stuff it could be used for something totally different. Once again it just looks cool, it's in really good shape (none of the local punks have abused it for their pleasure). I'm always amazed by the stuff that the utility companies plant on our property. I know a few folks who absolutely loath this stuff and constantly piss and moan about how ugly this junk is. One guy painted a big phone exchange box in his back yard and got endless grief from the phone company. If you want all of the perks of the golden age we live in, you'll have to put up with funky looking utility boxes that dot the landscape.

The Good Stuff saga...

I like the good stuff. I'm not talking about expensive sipping whiskey, Giant Robusto Cubans or Titleist Pro V1's. I mean the stuff that makes me smile, jump up-and-down and on occasion drool. I don't care what gets others excited, it's not my problem, I'm just concerned about my stuff.

Selfish you may say. Too be honest, I really don't care. This is all about me.

So what do I consider the good stuff? What makes me run around in glee like my hair is on fire? It's the stuff that I'm interested in beyond a passing glance-things that hold my interest longer than most TV shows do. Stuff like plastic models, coins, books, music, football and food. It's also stuff I find to be cool and interesting-like the picture of the sewer I grate I posted above. Never in all my life of sewer gazing have I seen something like this. This deserves mentioning...

So let the praise of good stuff begin...
